Are you thinking of presenting the story sequentially, like a comic, so that mostly the art work will convey the story, or will you be working more with illustrations that show certain elements of the story while the text mostly conveys the story?
Hello Patty, Yes - I'm working on mostly conveying the story through imagery: I imagine that way it would be accessible to all ages & could be read to kids while holding their attention visually. Do you think that is too direct an approach?
It's hard to know right now whether your approach is working. We need to see more of the work you've done. Sequential art (comics) can often work better with less text than illustrated art (Where the Wild Things are is an example of an illustrated book) but there are no hard and fast rules. Can you post your work in progress so we can see how the story is unfolding?
It might be good at this phase to link up with someone from the layout team to help negotiate your use of text. Perhaps you could join Zoe and Felicity when they spend time in the studio.
